Position Summary

Design and manage the construction and validation of precision tooling for use in high volume unattended injection molding operations. Provide Engineering support to Manufacturing and the Toolroom for the repair and enhancement of existing mold tooling including the execution of Engineering Change Orders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine functions which require application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, criteria and judgment in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.
  • Receive direction on general assignments of objectives and points of reference.
  • Refine technical data received from New Product Development and Manufacturing personnel, conduct appropriate evaluation, and create a detailed project specification suitable for tool manufacturing.
  • Supply adequate updates to team and management personnel as required or requested.
  • Manage documents and projects in the IFS Business ERP system inline with Value Plastics policies and procedures.
  • Utilize input from all departments from within Value Plastics in the design of tooling including aspects of DFM (Design for Manufacture).
  • Develop and modify tooling CAD models and detail drawings in SolidWorks CAD software package for use by Manufacturing, Tooling and external vendors.
  • Manage CAD files in PDM Works product data management system.
  • Fully utilize VPI engineering process flows, work instructions, templates, etc. and adhere to New Product Development Process.
  • Follow established VPI engineering design guidelines for tooling, and maximize the use of company supplied design software and project management tools to ensure that designs and schedules meet all functional and reliability requirements, while achieving overall company financial goals.
  • Recommend enhancements or changes to engineering processes or procedures which ensure compliance with Value Plastics Quality System and are in-line with appropriate ISO and GMP standards.
  • Inspect completed CAD models and drawings to ensure that they comply with internal standards and practices. Focus will be placed on accuracy and timeliness of completing work.
  • Manage outside contract resources to ensure on-time delivery of quality products and services.
  • Available to work on weekends, holidays and off –hours to support company requirements.
  • Responsible for meeting scope, schedule and cost requirements for projects undertaken.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in use and navigation of Windows operating system in a networked environment.
  • Ability to use advanced functions in moststandard Microsoft Office applications.Ability to efficiently and rapidly use advanced Word and Excel functionsto meet the productivity requirements of the position.
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks or similar3D solid modeling software is required.
  • Upon completion of training employee must beable to successfully navigate through IFS (e.g. ERP System, PDM module,Document Management and Work Orders).

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to read and interpret details on a computer screen, drawing or a physical part often in multiple colors is required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.
  • Work in a manufacturing/tool room environment (e.g. coolants, metal chips, noise up to 80 db etc.) and manufacturing cells where plastic injection parts are produced (e.g. plastic dust, pneumatic pick and place robots).
  • May fluctuate work time from 90% at a computer work station to 90% in a lab or production environment.
  • Post Offer Capability Screen Required (includes drug testing)

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering from a four-year college or university and one to two years related experience and/or training or; the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiar with GMP and ISO manufacturing principles preferred.
